The Masjid — House of Allah

The Prophet ﷺ said: The most beloved places to Allah are the mosques. (Muslim). The mosque is not just a prayer hall — it is the house of Allah, deserving of the highest level of respect and mindfulness.

Before You Enter

  • Ensure you are in a state of Wudu (ritual purity)
  • Dress modestly — men cover from navel to knee minimum, preferably more; women dress fully including head covering
  • Remove shoes before entering (at the door or shoe rack provided)
  • Switch your phone to silent or off

Entering the Mosque

  • Enter with the right foot first
  • Recite the dua of entering: Bismillah, Allahumma salli ala Muhammad, Allahumma aftah li abwaba rahmatik (O Allah, open for me the gates of Your mercy)
  • Greet with Assalamu Alaykum upon entering
  • Pray 2 rak'ahs of Tahiyyat al-Masjid (greeting prayer) before sitting — unless the iqamah has been called or prayer is already in progress

Inside the Mosque

  • Speak quietly — do not have loud conversations or argue
  • Do not step over or in front of someone who is praying
  • Do not eat strong-smelling foods before coming — garlic, onion
  • Fill rows from the front; do not leave gaps in prayer rows
  • Children are welcome but should be supervised to avoid disturbing worshippers
  • Do not buy or sell inside the mosque

Leaving the Mosque

  • Leave with the left foot first
  • Recite the dua of leaving: Bismillah, Allahumma salli ala Muhammad, Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik (O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty)
