Why Finding a Mosque Matters

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Prayer in congregation is twenty-seven times more rewarding than praying alone." (Bukhari & Muslim). The mosque (Masjid) is the heart of the Muslim community — a place for worship, learning, brotherhood, support, and spiritual growth.

Whether you are at home, travelling, or new to a city, finding a mosque helps you:

  • Establish your five daily prayers in congregation
  • Attend Jumu'ah (Friday prayer)
  • Connect with fellow Muslims
  • Access Islamic classes, lectures, and community support

What to Expect When Visiting a New Mosque

Before Entering

  • Remove your shoes and place them neatly
  • Perform wudu if needed (most mosques have dedicated facilities)
  • Dress modestly (men: cover navel to knees; women: loose clothing and hijab)
  • Turn your phone to silent

Inside the Mosque

  • Greet others with "Assalamu Alaikum"
  • Pray 2 rak'ahs Tahiyyat al-Masjid (greeting the mosque) if not in congregation
  • Men and women usually pray in separate areas
  • Avoid walking in front of someone who is praying

Mosque Etiquette – Best Practices

  • Speak softly — the mosque is a house of worship
  • Keep it clean and tidy
  • Do not eat strong-smelling food before coming
  • Respect the Imam and congregation
  • Contribute to the mosque if you are able

Finding a Mosque While Travelling

Use our Mosque Finder before your trip. Save addresses and prayer times. Many airports, shopping malls, and universities now have prayer rooms (musallah). In remote areas, you can pray anywhere clean, facing the Qibla.
