What is Sadaqah?

Sadaqah (صدقة) is voluntary charity given purely for the sake of Allah. The word comes from Sidq (sincerity), meaning it is a true reflection of faith. Unlike Zakat, Sadaqah has no minimum amount or strict rules — you can give anything, anytime, in any form.

Even a smile, removing harm from the path, or helping someone carry their load counts as Sadaqah. This makes charity possible for every Muslim, rich or poor.

Allah ﷻ says: "Indeed, the men who give charity and the women who give charity... it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward." (Quran 57:18)

Sadaqah vs Zakat

  • Zakat: Obligatory • Fixed 2.5% • Once a year
  • Sadaqah: Voluntary • Any amount • Anytime

Important: Zakat must be paid first. Sadaqah is additional charity and carries beautiful rewards.
