What is Dua?

Dua (دعاء) is the direct conversation between a servant and his Lord. It is one of the greatest acts of worship. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Dua is worship itself." (Abu Dawud). Allah invites us in the Quran: "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." (Quran 40:60). Through dua we express our needs, gratitude, fears, hopes, and love for Allah. It is not limited to times of difficulty — the most beloved servants make dua constantly, in ease and hardship.

The Power and Virtues of Dua

  • Dua can change divine decree (qadr).
  • It brings tranquility to the heart even before the answer arrives.
  • It is a form of jihad against despair and Shaytan.
  • Dua made for others is quickly accepted, and angels say "Ameen and the same for you."
